On September 6, 2024, the Ural Federal University hosted an international scientific seminar dedicated to the 95th anniversary of academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Apollon Borisovich Davidson. The participants and the reports reflected the wide range of interests and versatility of A. B. Davidson's talent. Focusing on the main areas of his research, the organizers of the seminar divided the reports into three thematic panels: “The British Empire in the 18th — 20th centuries: from an idea to world domination”, “Africa at the crossroads of cultures and civilizations” and “Colonial and postcolonial discourse in literature”. Discussions about British history, the colonial past and postcolonial present of African states, and the literary traditions of former colonies have demonstrated a number of pressing issues that concern contemporary researchers.
