The article is devoted to the actual problem of interaction between the contemporary museum and the myth. The concept of the museum as an absolutely objective scientific institute today does not correspond to reality, and for this reason it is necessary to revise not only the functional model of the museum in the system of presentation of scientific knowledge, but also the question of the admissibility of the myths' intrusion into the museum exposition space. The author suggests using the anthropological approach and the technique of “thick description” of Clifford Girz in the design of museum expositions.
