The article presents and considers various definitions of the concept of "adaptation", on the basis of which its structural and content components are distinguished. Such elements of the internal content of the concept of adaptation as the subject, object, process and result are analyzed. The author pays special attention to internal factors of adaptation and types of adaptation process. In the end, it is concluded that adaptation should be understood as a constant process of interaction of its structural components and the final result of this process.
