“Us and Them”: the Mechanism of Social Myth Broadcasting in the Media Environment

Annotation
The article gives the definition of contemporary social mythology. The media environment is, on the one hand, a manifestation of the basic characteristics of social myth, on the other hand, an additional tool in the social myth’s influencing on society. Mass media immerse a person in a specific reality and claim to stream certain values. The transformation of “sacred — profane” ratio under the influence of the development of the communication space is a matter of particular interest. It makes problematic to highlight the constructive functions of myth in “pure form”. The functioning of myth in the social media environment gives public life additional features.
