In any war, the image of the enemy is traditionally presented in a purely negative perspective, because in the course of conflict and extreme situations, often leading to the breakdown of interstate relations, strong negative emotions prevail in the mass consciousness, down to feelings of hatred. Meanwhile, in the history of many wars, where the demonization of the enemy's image began long before the outbreak of hostilities. The article analyzes the peculiarities of the propaganda campaign launched in the USA by the “yellow” press to discredit the policy pursued by the Spanish authorities in Cuba on the eve of the Spanish-American war.
