This article analyzes such a segment of the mass consciousness of a modern society as a myth. The relationship between the concepts “history” and “myth” is researched. The definition of historical myth, falsification and distortion of history is given and justified. The main functions of history and historical myth are shown. Particular attention is paid to the study of the correlation of these concepts in mass historical consciousness and historical science.
