The analysis of the form of notarial acts on real estate transactions from Ferrara of the 14th century is provided in the article. The dramatical changes taking place at this time in Ferrara and the whole region of the Northern Italy, that were linked with the liberation of peasantry and development of market relations, had their effect on all aspects of social life. These changes had to be unavoidably represented in the acts establishing rights of people of Ferrara on the property. Consequently, the study of them allows to trace the features of the development of society and law in the Italian medieval town. Several documents had to be produced for conducting of real estate transactions, including: 1. The basic contract on the transfer of rights of ownership to a purchaser; 2. The act of obtaining by a new owner of the right to possession (Tenuta); 3. Order of the town authorities on a public announcement about a transaction (Crida); 4. The act on conducted announcement; 5. The act on the refuse of relatives of a seller from their rights and privileges connected with the sold property. The complexity and elaborateness of procedures for conducting of real estate transactions attest on particular importance of land relations in Ferrara of the 14th century, as well as on the substantial level of development of market relations there at that time. This required the legal support, that manifested in the tendency to find a balance between interests of all parties in a basic contract, the reliable protection of rights on a property, and especially, the necessity of public announcement of a transaction and its official registration.
