“Almost Africans” in Russia: Africano-Americans about Russia and Soviet Union
Annotation
Representations of Africa and its peoples were created in our country with the help of data and impressions gained by our compatriots through the relations with African-Americans. The recent years brought two biographical volumes: "The Black Russian". New York, 2013 and “Black on Reds, 44 years in Soviet Union, an autobiography of Black American” (Russian translation — Symposium, Sankt Petersburg, 2012), as well as other recent publications give rather contrast considerations about the sources and ways of mutual representations of the peoples of African decent and Russian / Soviet people. Analyzing these representations can bring us to better understanding of the nature of racial and nationalistic theories which play now such an important role in the development of public thought.
