Annotation
The article deals with the changes in the foreign and Russian historiography of the French Revolution of the XVIII century that occurred in a quarter of a century since its bicentenary celebrations. The author comes to a conclusion that there was a rupture with the Soviet historiographic tradition over these years and a new generation of researchers appeared, but a negative perception of the revolution, equally typical for both the «conservatives» and the «liberals», has straightened in public opinion. Contrary to the previous tendency to apply the French political experience to the history of Russia, nowadays the reverse process prevails.
