The article examines the place and importance of Leningrad during World War II, plans and actions of fascist troops and their Finnish allies in respect of Leningrad. Much attention is paid to the tragedy of the blockade, artificially created the fascist German command. The article also discusses the measures of state leadership to mobilize surrounded the city, the plan of the Soviet command to break the blockade of the city, the Red Army attempts to break through the enemy troops and international significance of the Leningrad unblocking.
