Soviet Priorities in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, 1960’s
Annotation
The article considers the Soviet priorities in the UN Commission on Human Rights in 1960’s. The Soviet diplomacy focused activities in the field of human rights for solving major international problems associated with the struggle against racial discrimination, colonialism, apartheid, segregation. Successfully opposed the creation of supranational bodies such as international criminal court and high commissioner for human rights, but could not prevent the development of mechanisms dealing with individual complaints which narrowed national state jurisdiction. The USSR paid traditional attention to the socio-economic aspects of human rights.
