Annotation

This article represents an attempt to show a possibility of a synthesis of the formational and civilizational approaches to historical research. Considering the enlightenment concept of lord Bolingbroke’s “Patriot King”, the author draws a conclusion about double determinacy of the writer’s position. Remaining complete and consistent at the level of the text it has cultural universals as its core, expressed by an aloof form of “class interests”.
