This Chapter deals with the history of Russian Orthodoxy in the XVIII — early XX centuries: the process of nationalization of the Church and the loss of its economic independence, the history of monasticism and missionary work of the Synodal period, the development of ecclesiastical education and science, and also the movement for congregational transformation in the Church (the end of XIX — beginning of XX centuries) and the Church Counsel of 1917—1918's.
