This Chapter deals with the life of Russian Orthodoxy Church from the X to the end of the XVI century, the kea points of the history of the Christian Church in Russia in the Middle ages are described, especially its relationship with the princes and the tsars authority, the role of the Church in the formation of social and family practices of the Russian people as well as Russian art and identity. Special attention is paid to the history of Russian monasticism and missionary activities.
