Annotation

This article describes the USA policy toward Cuba during the Ten Year’s War for Cuban independence (1868-1878) is investigated. Analysis of archival and documentary materials brings the author to the conclusion that American administration in that matter followed «Fruit Maturity»'s policy, developed in 1820-s. The USA refused to recognize Cuban independence but used different methods-diplomatic pressure, attempts to purchase the island from Spain and acted as mediators- to reach peace and rapid settlement of the Spanish-Cuban conflict.
