The article explores the evolution of theoretical and methodological approaches to the ratio of horizontal and vertical industrial and economic integration, presented as the interaction of hierarchical and network structures in the economy. It is shown that the modern organization of an innovative economy is based on the rich experience of theoretical paradigms - from neoclassicism to mesoeconomics. The internal sources of the dynamics and growth of the economy, formed at the meso level, were studied.
