About
The article is devoted to the key challenges of U.S. current policy in Iraq. The military victory over Islamic state terrorists is not enough to stabilize Iraq. The jihadist organization passed from the quasi-state form to a guerrilla terrorist group pattern. In addition to the threat of terrorist attacks by Islamic radicals, the threat of a conflict between Iraqi Kurds and the central government in Baghdad remains. The U.S. President Donald Trump eagerness to resist the influence of Iran in the Middle East also doesn’t contribute to the stabilization of Iraq. These problems risk to escalate into an armed conflict that will require new U.S. intervention, and potentially undermine the stability of the entire region. The author reviews the current state of both problems and possible U.S. steps to be taken to resolve them.
