The French and US approaches to the issue of European security, “Atlantism” and “Europeism,” have had impact on the transatlantic partnership. The author analyzes their essence, main differences, implementation mechanisms, adaptation to modern changes. The paper describes French efforts in defining the system of European security and strengtheningthe EU military potential, and the US reaction. The author explains the main trends including reinforcement of the Euro-Atlantic strategic partnership, offers her conclusions on conceptual approaches of the actors, and Russian policy toward the Euro-Atlantics.
