In 2016–2017 the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences, organized a series of seminars devoted to ideology. Presentations by E.Yu. Soloviev ‘Philosophy as a Critique of Ideologies’, V.M. Mezhuev “Philosophy as an Ideology” and A.V. Rubtsov ‘Illusions of Deideologization. The Concept of "Diffuse" and "Penetrating" Ideology’ demonstrated how ambivalent are the relationship between philosophy and ideology. It was clear to the participants of those discussions that the tension produced by ideology is not narrow directed. Ideology easily penetrates not only into philosophy but into contemporary economy, science, education, art, mass media as well. In order to achieve the interdisciplinary understanding of ideology in its history, including reflection on the modern forms of social influence, it was decided to unite efforts of the specialists from different fields in a “round table” discussion. The idea of the discussion was to present and possibly systemize a range of conceptual and methodological approaches to overcome the narrow political understanding of ideology. The “round table” discussion held on the 1^st of March, 2018 in the Institute of Philosophy showed that mobility and diversity of ideology as a social phenomenon correspond to a highly dynamic contemporary social reality. That is why it is so important to unite efforts of the researchers from different areas of knowledge in order to prevent transformations of a relatively intelligible and open for possible interaction ideology into a purely repressive one.
