Annotation

The English Revolution led to major changes in both the country's political structure and its political culture. In particular, during the years of the civil wars, the image of Charles I Stuart was significantly transformed. Some of the most informative and extremely interesting sources in this regard are the flags of the royalists and supporters of parliament. Feature of this source lies in the fact that it simultaneously carries information in verbal form (motto) and visual (the actual image on the flags).
