The lecture is devoted to the nature of the concept of “ius gentium” in Roman and medieval jurisprudence as international public and private law. The speaker pays particular attention to the impact of Rhodian maritime and commercial law on Roman private law. He traces the history of the concept of ius gentium in the Middle Ages, and partly in modern times.
