Annotation

The next volume of the yearbook ‘The Most Ancient States of Eastern Europe’ is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Russian historian and philologist Alexander Vasilievich Nazarenko. A significant part of the articles is devoted to the history of the Russian Church and monuments of church literature - the problems that were in the centre of his scientific interests in the last years of his life. The second set of articles continues A.V. Nazarenko's studies in the field of international relations of ancient Russia, including those with Byzantium, England, and Scandinavia. A number of articles also consider socio-political aspects of the history of Ancient Rus' and neighbouring countries. The section ‘Historiography’ publishes a review and an overview of the work of the Swedish archaeologist Ingmar Jansson. The published materials will be of interest to historians of the Russian Church, religious studies and medievists, as well as students, teachers and all readers interested in the history of the Russian and European Middle Ages.
